About the book: Bert Stern's revealing photos of Marilyn Monroe's "last sitting" enter into a dialogue with Norman Mailer's unsparing biography of the actress in this masterful work. The fusion of image and text creates an intimate portrait of a woman notorious for her enigmatic nature – a star who still shone brightly even in her tragedy.
Biography: Bert Stern (1929–2013) was one of America's greatest portrait photographers, shooting 200 pages a year for Vogue in the 60s and producing many of the most important print and television advertising campaigns. He is best known for his revolutionary print ads for Smirnoff and his portrait series of Marilyn Monroe just six weeks before her death. Stern lived and worked in New York.
No other contemporary American writer was as versatile, brilliant, prolific, and controversial as Norman Mailer (1923–2007). Mailer is one of the most influential authors of the second half of the 20th century. He wrote a dozen novels, twenty non-fiction books, reportage, plays, screenplays, and television series, hundreds of essays, two collections of poetry, and a collection of short stories. The two-time Pulitzer Prize winner lived in Brooklyn, New York, and in Provincetown, Massachusetts.
