About the Book: Intimate and close-up: This volume presents over 300 photographs from the legendary portfolio of Alfred Wertheimer, showing the young singer Elvis Presley from Memphis on the verge of stardom.
Biography: Alfred Wertheimer (1929-2014) was born in Germany, came to America as a child and settled in Brooklyn. He was interested in architecture and design from an early age and studied at Cooper Union College in New York, graduating in 1951. Wertheimer's photos, which first gained national recognition after Elvis's death on August 16, 1977, document the metamorphosis of pop music and the cultural change in America.
