The Kilim originates from the Gashgai, Turkish-speaking nomadic tribes from the region around Shiraz in southwest Iran. It is a flat-woven wool rug that is reversible and characterized by a distinctive slit-weave technique, where fine slits are created at the color changes. The design features typical Gashgai motifs such as rhombuses, squares, stripes, as well as Caucasian star motifs, and combines these with a harmonious color scheme.
