About the Book: In European art and cultural history, the "Viennese Modern" around 1900 occupies a particularly prominent place. In 2018, the centenary of the death of some of its most important protagonists will be commemorated, those of Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele, Otto Wagner, and Koloman Moser – a good opportunity to visit this greenhouse of modernity.

Biography: Rainer Metzger studied Art History, History, and German Literature in Munich. He received his doctorate in 1994 on Dan Graham and was an art critic for the Viennese newspaper Der Standard. He has written numerous art books, including volumes on Van Gogh and Chagall. Since 2004, he has held a professorship for Art History at the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design.
