This Kilim originates from the traditional environment of the Gashgai, a Turkic-speaking nomadic community from the region around Shiraz in southwestern Iran. The weaving technique typical for these carpets is the double-sided usable, flat slit tapestry, in which small characteristic weaving slits are created by color changes. The patterns show classic Gashgai elements such as rhombuses, squares, stripes, and Caucasian star motifs. The color palette relies on strong natural colors such as blue, yellow, red, green, and beige, which give the carpet a vibrant, traditionally appearing overall impression.
