Halblang is a German design label based on a simple idea: slowing down.
It was founded by Sarah and Paul, who began to question the speed at which furniture is manufactured, used, and replaced. From this exploration, a calmer approach emerged – one that sees furniture less as fixed objects and more as things that move through time together with people.
Instead of reacting to trends or acceleration, the brand focuses on tranquility, clarity, and durability. The objects appear understated and grounded – characterized by natural materials and a reduced design language that allows them to fit naturally into everyday life and remain there.

COCOLI: Tell us a bit about Halblang – what is the story behind the brand?
“Mach mal halblang” literally means to shift down a gear. To what extent is this attitude reflected in your furniture? Is the name more of a lifestyle, a design principle – or both?
Halblang: This motto is at the heart of our brand. It is intended to remind us to slow down and create space for a mindful life. In contrast to the throwaway society, we want to promote appreciation for materials, products, and local craftsmanship and encourage people to use products for a long time. That is why, when designing our furniture, we attach great importance to durability, ease of repair, versatility, and high-quality workmanship. In this way, people can use our furniture to create a home where they can find peace and relax – furnished with natural materials that connect them with nature, and thoughtful designs that meet the highest standards.
“Life is constantly changing today – we need furniture that adapts to these circumstances.”

COCOLI: You work with small craft businesses and regional wood. In a world where everything is becoming faster and more standardized: Why is this so important to you? What does slow, local production give to a piece of furniture that mass production simply cannot provide?
Halblang: For us, collaborating with small, regional craft businesses is essential. It’s not just about where something is made, but how and under what conditions.
Slow, local production allows for a level of care, precision, and material awareness that is simply unattainable in mass production. Every piece carries the character of the material and the hand that shaped it. Especially with solid wood, the grain makes every piece of furniture unique.
At the same time, it shortens supply chains, strengthens local craftsmanship, and ensures fair working conditions. It is a more responsible way of producing – and you can tell by the product.
COCOLI: Your furniture is made to accompany you through life – it can be disassembled, rebuilt, and repaired. Especially today, this seems almost radical. How did this approach come about – more from a personal need, a design idea, or something else entirely?
Halblang: The idea arose from a personal need. Life today is constantly changing; we move frequently and therefore need furniture that adapts to these circumstances. However, many pieces of furniture do not meet these requirements and thus become disposable products far too quickly. In our search for high-quality furniture that can survive such moves, we quickly realized that there is hardly any solid wood furniture that is truly portable and adaptable. This led to a central question for us: How can we create something that evolves with its users? The result is a system that can be disassembled, reassembled, repaired, and even visually changed through replaceable elements. It is our answer to a fast-paced world: furniture that does not need to be replaced, but can grow and change over time.

“Every piece carries the character of the material and the hand that shaped it.”

COCOLI: You chose COCOLI as a partner. What were you looking for – and what gave you the feeling that it was simply a good fit?
Halblang: COCOLI's sustainability approach fits perfectly with our philosophy.
Sustainability also means extending the lifespan of products and avoiding unnecessary waste. A piece of furniture does not lose its purpose due to small flaws or because it has already been on display. In this way, COCOLI complements our range ideally by giving B-stock, returns, and exhibition pieces a second chance.
Furthermore, it is very important for small brands like ours to work with partners like COCOLI in order to reach people and not get lost in the crowd.
COCOLI: When you sit on or live with a Halblang piece of furniture for the first time: what should you feel?
Halblang: We want people to feel a sense of calm. Our furniture is designed to create a quiet, balanced atmosphere that establishes a connection to nature. Through clear forms, natural materials, and a reduced aesthetic, they let rooms breathe.
At the same time, there is a subtle sense of permanence – the knowledge that the piece of furniture is durable, adaptable, and nothing temporary.
Ideally, it is a small reminder to slow down. To pause for a moment – entirely in the spirit of our motto: "Take it easy."
Halblang × COCOLI
The collaboration between Halblang and COCOLI feels like a natural continuation of a shared attitude.
At its core is a simple idea: design does not lose value just because it changes owners. Even if furniture comes back, has slight signs of wear, or was used in the showroom, it remains part of an ongoing story – and not something to simply set aside.
Through COCOLI, these pieces get the space to continue telling this story – they find new homes, new contexts, and thus a longer life than originally intended.
Together, the collaboration stands for a circular understanding of design and ownership. A perspective that prioritizes continuity over novelty and understands time not as something that wears an object down, but as something that gives it depth.
Thus, Halblang × COCOLI is thought of less in terms of products and more in terms of cycles – about keeping design in circulation and allowing it to quietly evolve as it moves.
In very concrete terms, this idea is also reflected in the Halblang B-stock pieces at COCOLI. They are often up to 30% cheaper than the original price. The furniture may have slight signs of wear or come from the showroom, but it is fully functional and of high quality. Instead of being newly produced, they are given a second life – and that is exactly what makes them special. It is not about less value, but about a more conscious decision: for less waste and more use of what is already there.
