Biography: Bob Willoughby (1927–2009) took his first photo at the age of twelve. His exhibitions featuring shots of jazz musicians and dancers led to a contract with Globe Photos in 1954, followed by assignments for Harper’s Bazaar. After photographing Judy Garland during the filming of A Star Is Born, he became the first "unit photographer" specifically hired by film studios to take promotional shots during filming. His work appeared in magazines and numerous photo books. Most recently, Willoughby lived in Vence in southern France, where he passed away in 2009.latimes.com
