About the Book: Lemons, limes, and bitter oranges float like celestial bodies over Italian villas, Nuremberg gardens, and picturesque landscapes in J. C. Volkamer's ode to citrus fruit. This volume is based on one of the few surviving sets of hand-colored copperplate engravings from the 18th century and showcases around 170 citrus varieties. In the style of surreal scenes, they conjure a time when such fruits were still truly exotic.
