This Kilim originates from the culturally rich environment of the Gashgai, a Turkic-speaking, nomadic community from the region around Shiraz in southwest Iran. Typical for Gashgai Kilims is the reversibility as well as the flat slit-weave technique, where characteristic weaving slits are created by color changes. The design includes traditional motifs such as rhombuses, squares, stripes, and Caucasian star shapes. For the coloring, bold natural tones such as blue, yellow, red, green, and beige are frequently used.
