About the book:
Peter Beard turned his life in Africa into a total work of art – a unique collage of photography, diary entries, and environmental activism. This XL edition shows the artist's entire world: from haute couture models under the Kenyan sun to elephant carcasses documenting the destruction of nature. Beard's collages reflect personal experiences as well as the changes of his time.

Biography:
Peter Beard (1938–2020) began keeping a diary and taking photographs early on. After graduating from Yale, he dedicated himself to Africa, working in the 1960s and 1970s in Tsavo National Park, the Aberdare Mountains, and at Lake Rudolf.

Owen Edwards has been reporting on photography for over 30 years, including for American Photographer, New York Times Magazine, and the Smithsonian.
Steven M. L. Aronson, writer and former publisher, was the editor of Longing for Darkness and co-author of Savage Grace.
David Fahey, co-owner of the Fahey/Klein Gallery in Los Angeles, has co-designed over 45 photography books and is co-vice president of the Herb Ritts Foundation.
Nejma Beard, born in Kenya, directs the Peter Beard Studio and combines ecological and humanitarian responsibility with deep knowledge of the country.
Ruth Ansel is an award-winning art director, founder of the Ansel Design Studio, and has worked with photographers such as Peter Beard, Richard Avedon, and Annie Leibovitz.
