The frame of the chair consists of high-gloss polished flat spring steel, which is elaborately finished by hand to achieve a mirror-like surface. 17 dyed-through cowhide straps support the cushions, which are made from 40 leather rectangles precisely cut by hand. These are sewn with welting from a single hide. For the upholstery, a fire-retardant foam in various densities is used, providing optimal seating comfort. The leather straps are fixed with aluminum rivets, ensuring additional stability and durability. Each specimen bears the engraved signature of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and the emblem of the manufacturer Knoll International as a sign of its authenticity.
