The Aluminium Chair is one of the most significant furniture designs of the 20th century. Charles and Ray Eames originally designed it in 1958 for the private residence of an American art collector. In the construction of the chair, the designer couple departed from the principle of the seat shell and stretched a fabric or leather panel tautly but resiliently between two side sections.
Backrest and seat: EA 119 with high backrest. High-frequency welded upholstery units in leather.
Side profiles and spreaders, armrests and base: in polished die-cast aluminium.
Mechanism: Adjustable backward tilt mechanism, lockable in the forward position. Seat height continuously adjustable via gas spring.
Castor cover in black.
The chair adapts to the body and offers high comfort, even without elaborate padding. The chair was used for about 3 years and has been in storage since then. It is ideally suited for working, both at home and in the office.
