The Gashgai are Turkish-speaking nomadic tribes living in the region around Shiraz in southwest Iran. Kilims are reversible, flat wool rugs with a typical slit weave. This is created by color changes in the weft, which results in characteristic slits. The rugs show classic Gashgai motifs such as rhombuses, squares, stripes and Caucasian star patterns. Colors such as blue, yellow, red, green and beige are used for the design.
