About the book: By merging traditional Japanese design language with Western concrete modernism, the award-winning self-taught architect Tadao Ando has developed a completely new aesthetic of building. Newer projects in this updated tribute to the master of minimalism and exciting dramaturgies include the Poly Theater in Shanghai, the Clark Center at the Clark Art Institute in Williamstown (Massachusetts), and an artist residency in Puerto Escondido, Mexico.

Biography: Tadao Ando (born 1941) is one of the world's most renowned contemporary architects. After extensive travels through Europe, Africa, and Asia, he founded the firm Tadao Ando Architect & Associates as a self-taught architect in 1969. Ando has been honored with the Pritzker Prize (1995), the RIBA Royal Gold Medal (1997), the AIA Gold Medal (2002), and the Praemium Imperiale (1996), among others. He lives and works in his hometown of Osaka.
