About the book: In 367 copper engravings, this magnificent collection captures the flowers of the palace garden of Eichstätt in Bavaria, which was among the most beautiful gardens of all time. The illustrations are arranged by season and represent – following the classification scheme in use today – plants from a total of 90 families, distributed across 340 genera. Besler's book is one of the most precious treasures of botanical literature.

Biography: Klaus Walter Littger heads the manuscript collection of the University of Eichstätt. In addition to essays on German language and literature, he has published numerous writings on the history of the University of Eichstätt and local music history. He is the editor of a journal and other publications on the history of Eichstätt. Werner Dressendörfer is a pharmaceutical historian and library assessor and has taught as an honorary professor at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. His particular interest lies in early modern herbals, the cultural history of useful and medicinal plants, as well as plant symbolism in art. He is the author of numerous pharmaceutical and botanical history publications. His titles published by TASCHEN include The Garden of Eichstätt, Leonhart Fuchs: The New Herbal of 1543, Pomona Britannica, The Temple of Flora and The Vegetable Garden.
