About the Book: As an unprecedented program in the history of architecture, Case Study Houses gave Americans new ideas for residential construction. This comprehensive presentation of the program introduces each of the 36 house prototypes through floor plans, sketches, and photographs, showing how architects – among them Richard Neutra, Charles and Ray Eames, or Eero Saarinen – redefined the landscape of Los Angeles as well as the modern residential home.
Biography: Julius Shulman shaped the perception of 20th-century Californian architecture with his iconic photographs of buildings by, among others, Frank Lloyd Wright, Pierre Koenig, Charles Eames, and Richard Neutra. His works emphasize not only the architectural idea but also the cultural and human context of the structures, whereby architectural photography became an independent art form. Many of the buildings he documented no longer exist today or have been altered, but Shulman's images remain highly sought after.
Elizabeth A. T.
