About the book: With his Olympia, Manet caused one of the greatest scandals in art history in 1865. He was a thorn in the side of the representatives of Salon painting with their conventional view of art, while the young avant-garde saw him as a role model. This introduction highlights Manet's exciting unique position between painting tradition and Impressionism.
