Rizbaf Gabbeh rug Wool Yellow

This handmade Gabbeh rug comes from the Fars province around Shiraz and is traditionally crafted by Gashghai and Lori nomads. Originally, Gabbeh rugs served as sleeping mats, as their high pile provides extra warmth. The use of hand-spun, lanolin-rich wool gives the surface a characteristic, slightly granular texture and makes the rug soft and comfortable at the same time. The colors are derived from natural plant dyes and range from classic natural tones to strong reds, yellows, greens, and blues. Most Gabbehs are simple, but occasionally stylized motifs from the everyday lives of the nomads can be found, such as animals, plants, or people.
