The world is full of beautiful furniture. That's why we see no reason to constantly produce new ones. Whether it's exhibition pieces, b-stock, secondhand designs, or iconic vintage furniture, at COCOLI we believe that all these treasures deserve a second chance. Our goal is to make this imperfect inventory of quality items accessible and affordable. And thus reduce the production and shipping of new items and save resources for our planet. We want to shake up, renew, and prove the entire furniture industry, which urgently needs to implement more sustainable concepts, that second-hand can also be first choice.
"We check second-hand and imperfect furniture for condition, authenticity, and quality, to save them from a quick end of life in the landfill. We hope that more and more furniture brands and manufacturers will join our mission."
— COCOLI CEO, Gemma Comabella
The Mission
We are breaking new ground in the consumer furniture market
Our mission is to give more furniture a second life—and this has never been more important. According to the European Environmental Bureau (EEB), more than 10 million tonnes of furniture are discarded every year in the EU alone. Most of it ends up in landfills or is incinerated. That’s hard to imagine, right? To put it into perspective: that’s roughly the weight of 1,000 Eiffel Towers. Phew. The report states very clearly that the furniture industry is not doing enough to counteract this waste. A possible solution? Circular economy models—reuse, repair, and refurbishment.
But why do consumers and businesses dispose of so much furniture in the first place?
The reasons include poor material quality, low-quality craftsmanship, and a (still) limited demand for secondhand furniture. One thing is clear: the furniture industry urgently needs to shift its business model toward sustainability. We want to lead by example. That’s why we partner with furniture manufacturers and brands to tackle this challenge together.

COCOLI & facts
We are proud of what we have already achieved...
...and we have a lot planned!
The Packaging Reuse and alternative materials 50% of the furniture items shipped from our warehouse are already sent using reused packaging materials, such as cardboard boxes and, in some cases, even repeatedly reusable fabrics. The quality of our shipping is very important to us, and to ensure that each piece arrives safely at your home, reused packaging is sometimes combined with new materials. Through reuse alone, we have already been able to save 6 tonnes of CO₂e in a very short time. We are continuously working to further increase the share of recycled shipping materials.

The Transport
Climate-friendly shipping & more
At the end of 2023, the switch to climate-friendly shipping for 100% of parcel shipments from our warehouses was achieved! More and more of our partner brands are shipping in a climate-friendly or climate-neutral way, but unfortunately, this is not always possible depending on the transport destination or product type. To reduce our company's ecological footprint, we are taking targeted measures here. We keep our transport routes as short as possible and consciously choose transport partners such as UPS and DHL Go Green, who offer more environmentally friendly shipping options. Our next goal: Climate-friendly freight forwarding and returns.
Our Partners
Strong together for the environment
Unsold furniture from the last collection? Must go because they take up too much space in the warehouses. A small scratch on the back? Unfortunately, it can no longer be sold as new. We know the challenges companies face very well and offer them solutions. We sell your exhibition pieces, B-grade goods, or previous year's collections as sustainability partners on our platform and help them reduce their footprint and fulfill the circular economy action plan of the EU Green Deal.

Fast Private Sale
Private sellers in Germany can sell their preloved designer furniture quickly and professionally through us and receive our full support throughout the entire process, including price advice and, if needed, packaging material and shipping. To ensure we offer a high-quality service and security during the sale, we charge a price-dependent sales commission and a small service fee for the buyer, allowing us to get closer to our goal of making consumption behavior more environmentally friendly. With us, customers can get the most out of their secondhand experience, whether buying or selling. We focus on community, transparency, fairness, and shared success.
We are grateful for the recognition 🪴
What is CO₂e all about?
The production of new furniture causes significant environmental pollution. In 2020, the Norwegian EPD Foundation calculated how much CO₂e is generated in the manufacturing of various types of furniture. By increasingly purchasing recycled or repaired furniture, less new furniture is produced in the long run. By purchasing a B-stock or second-hand piece of furniture from COCOLI, you actively contribute to the products circularity and thus to reducing environmental impact. The CO₂e values we provide are average values for different product types calculated by the EPD and are for reference only. Several greenhouse gases contribute to climate change to varying degrees, for example, carbon dioxide (CO₂), methane (CH4), and others. To summarize the climate impact of these greenhouse gases, they are converted into their "Global Warming Potential" (GWP), the unit of which is CO₂ equivalents (CO₂e). Depending on the activity, several different greenhouse gases can be emitted. Each greenhouse gas can then be expressed as a CO₂ equivalent using its GWP.

Next Steps
Our mission for more sustainability in the furniture industry is just beginning
Sustainable business practices are only truly sustainable if they permeate all areas of a company – including the well-being of the workforce, training in diversity and inclusion, and impact on customers. So there is much to do. This year, we want to triple our positive impact and are actively working to make our packaging and transport solutions ever more sustainable. Here, we will annually update our readers and partners on our progress. But there are also other projects we are working towards, such as official support for sustainable projects and sustainability certifications for COCOLI, which we will soon share with you here.
