About the book: The Austrian architect and publicist Adolf Loos, contemporary and friend of Karl Kraus, Oskar Kokoschka, Peter Altenberg, and Arnold Schönberg, had no liking for historicism, the still favored architectural style of his Viennese fellow citizens, and little enthusiasm for the rampant Art Nouveau. He championed an architecture of simplicity and clarity and created seminal works of modernism with his buildings. An introduction to his work.

Biography: August Sarnitz is an architect and professor of architectural history and theory at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts. He is the author of books on 20th-century architecture and exile literature in the United States and New Zealand, including titles on Rudolf M. Schindler, Lois Welzenbacher, Ernst Lichtblau, Ernst Plischke, and Adolf Loos.
Peter Gössel runs an agency for museum and exhibition design. For TASCHEN, he has edited monographs on Julius Shulman, R. M. Schindler, John Lautner, and Richard Neutra, as well as several architecture titles in the Little Series.
