About the Book: In 367 copperplate engravings, this magnificent collection captures the flowers of the Eichstätt Castle Garden in Bavaria, which was one of the most beautiful gardens of all time. The illustrations are arranged according to seasons and represent – following today's common classification scheme – plants from a total of 90 families, distributed across 340 genera. Besler's book is among the most precious treasures of botanical literature.

Biography: Klaus Walter Littger heads the manuscript collection at the University of Eichstätt. In addition to essays on German language and literature, he has published numerous writings on the history of the University of Eichstätt and local music history. He is the editor of a journal and other publications on the history of Eichstätt. Werner Dressendörfer is a historian of pharmacy and a library assessor and has taught as an honorary professor at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. His particular interest lies in early modern herbals, the cultural history of useful and medicinal plants, and plant symbolism in art. He is the author of numerous publications on the history of pharmacy and botany. At TASCHEN, he has published Der Garten von Eichstätt, Leonhart Fuchs: Das Kräuterbuch von 1543, Pomona Britannica, The Tempel of Flora, and The Vegetable Garden.
