These images, created between the founding of the People's Republic in 1949 and the early eighties, represent an astonishing document of the utopian dreams of Red China, as well as its campaigns to win the minds and hearts of the population.

Biography: Anchee Min was born and raised in Mao's China. As a passionate party supporter, she was given the lead role in a film by Mao's wife Jiang Ching before production was halted due to Mao's death. In 1984, she emigrated to the USA, where she wrote the bestseller biography Becoming Madame Mao.The poet and writer Duo Duo was born in Beijing in 1951 and emigrated abroad in 1989. He eventually found a new home in the Netherlands as a Writer-in-residence at the Sinological Institute of the University of Leuven. He is considered one of the most outstanding poets that China has produced after the Cultural Revolution.Stefan R. Landsberger holds a Ph.D. in Sinology from the University of Leuven. He is a lecturer at the Research Centre for the Modern China of the Sinological Institute at Leiden University. Landsberger is one of the editors of the journal China Information and possesses one of the world's largest private collections of Chinese propaganda posters. He has published numerous works on Chinese propaganda and maintains an extensive website on this genre of political communication.
