Biography: Christo and Jeanne-Claude began working together in 1961 and lived in New York City from 1964. Jeanne-Claude died in 2009, Christo in 2020. Their most significant projects include Wrapped Coast (1968–69), Valley Curtain (1970–72), Running Fence (1972–76), Surrounded Islands (1980–83), The Pont Neuf Wrapped (1975–85), The Umbrellas (1984–91), Wrapped Reichstag (1971–95), Wrapped Trees (1997–98), The Gates (1979–2005), The Floating Piers (2014–16), The London Mastaba (2016–18), and L’Arc de Triomphe, Wrapped (1961–2021).
Wolfgang Volz has worked with Christo and Jeanne-Claude since 1971 and was project manager for Wrapped Reichstag and Wrapped Trees, among others. He also led The Wall – 13,000 Oil Barrels and Big Air Package in Oberhausen. As the exclusive photographer of their works, he documented the projects in numerous books and over 300 exhibitions worldwide.
