About the book: From the early history of the US space agency founded in 1958 to current Mars projects and future missions: hundreds of photos and rarely shown original documents tell the story of NASA, which always manages to stage spaceflight and research as a spectacular media event.

Biography: Andrew Chaikin is the author of the bestseller A Man on the Moon, a detailed account of the Apollo moon missions based on eyewitness reports. This work formed the basis for the three-time Emmy Award-winning HBO series From the Earth to the Moon. Dr. Roger Launius served as Chief Historian for NASA from 1990 to 2002 and was subsequently appointed Chief Curator of the Spaceflight Department at the National Air and Space Museum in Washington (D.C.). He was also a member of the Columbia Accident Investigation Board in 2003.
Piers Bizony has written books and texts on natural sciences and the history of technology for various publishers in Great Britain and the USA. One of his recent projects, Atom, which is linked to a BBC TV series, tells the dramatic story of the rivalries and passions behind the discovery of quantum physics. The Man Who Ran the Moon, about Jim Webb, the NASA administrator during the first moon landings, was critically acclaimed, and Starman, a gripping biography of Yuri Gagarin (co-authored with Jamie Doran), is soon to be filmed. His text for The Making of Stanley Kubrick's '2001: A Space Odyssey' is a greatly expanded and updated version of his 1994 bestseller 2001: Filming the Future.
