Gabbeh Rug Wool Multicolored

Gabbeh carpets are traditionally made by Gashghai and Lori nomads in the Fars province around Shiraz. Originally, they served as bedding, as their high pile provides additional warmth. The hand-spun, lanolin-rich wool gives them a characteristic, slightly granular surface texture. Many Gabbeh carpets are in natural cream, brown, and gray tones, while vibrant colors such as red, yellow, green, and blue are created using plant dyes. The designs are mostly simple, but occasionally stylized motifs from the daily lives of the nomads can be found, including animals, plants, and people.
