About the Book: Us and Them is an ode to partnership and art. Helmut Newton and Alice Springs (aka June Newton) first published a collection of intimate self-portraits and photographs of each other in 1998. Supplemented by shots of friends and celebrities, the book reveals the fascinating melange of the two artists' lives and work.
Biography: Helmut Newton (1920–2004) was one of the most influential photographers of all time. He became internationally known in the 1970s, primarily through his work for the various editions of Vogue. His mix of ambiguous situations, dramatic lighting, and unconventional image composition became his trademark. He received numerous honors, including in France the distinction Commandeur dans l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres. June Newton (1923–2021) worked as a photographer under the pseudonym Alice Springs since 1970. Her works have been exhibited worldwide and published in Vanity Fair, Interview, Elle, and Vogue, among others. Among the many famous people she has portrayed are William S. Burroughs, Catherine Deneuve, Graham Greene, Vivienne Westwood, Ralph Gibson, Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Mapplethorpe, Yves Saint Laurent, and Nicole Kidman.
