Biography: Lorenz Bichler is a doctor of Sinology with studies in Sinology, Japanese Studies, and Modern History in Zurich, Beijing, and Tokyo. He taught, among others, at New York University and currently teaches at the Institute of Sinology at Heidelberg University. Melanie Trede, Professor of Japanese Art History at Heidelberg University since 2004, has taught at New York University and was a visiting professor at Columbia and Michigan University. She held fellowships at the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin, Gakushûin University, Tokyo, and the Marsilius-Kolleg in Heidelberg.
