When you say International Style, you also say Julius Shulman. His photographs, not just of Californian post-war modernism, have ensured that this architectural style became known to a broad public and the epitome of modernism. Shulman's shots not only capture the structural, functional, and design elements of a building, but also convey an impression of its surroundings, its inhabitants, and their living worlds. This new edition of Modernism Rediscovered, personally curated by Benedikt Taschen, shows the masterful shots from Shulman's personal archives of over 400 buildings from the USA, Mexico, Israel, and Hong Kong.

Hardcover, 3 volumes in slipcase, 24.9 x 31.6 cm, 8.97 kg, 1008 pages

Biography: Julius Shulman's photographs of Californian architecture had a lasting impact on the 20th century. Without his iconic images of buildings such as those by Frank Lloyd Wright, Pierre Koenig, Charles Eames, or Richard Neutra, a book on modern architecture would be hardly imaginable. Shulman made architectural grandeur visible for the first time and contributed to architectural photography being recognized as an independent art form. His compositions reveal both the architectural idea and the dreams and hopes of an entire era. Even without people, his images appear profoundly human, and many of the documented buildings no longer exist today or have been altered – yet the demand for Shulman's photographs remains unbroken.
