The Kelim comes from the region around Shiraz in Southwest Iran and is made by the Turkish-speaking Gashgai nomads living there. It is a double-sided, flat-woven wool rug in traditional slit-weaving technique, where characteristic slits are created in the fabric by color changes. The design shows classic Gashgai motifs such as rhombuses, squares, stripes, and Caucasian star motifs, and combines traditional colors such as blue, yellow, red, green, and beige, with the brown background tone accentuated by a blue border.
