The Kelim originates from the region around Shiraz in southwestern Iran and is made by the Turkish-speaking Gashgai nomads living there. It is a double-sided, flat-woven wool carpet made using the traditional slit-tapestry technique, in which characteristic slits are created in the fabric through color changes. The design features classic Gashgai motifs such as rhombuses, squares, stripes, as well as Caucasian star motifs, and combines traditional colors such as blue, yellow, red, green, and beige in a lively, colorful composition.
