This Kelim carpet comes from the Gashgai, a Turkic-speaking nomadic group from the region around Shiraz in southwestern Iran. Kelims are double-sided, flat-woven wool carpets with a characteristic slit weave, where the colors change at the slits. Typical motifs are rhombuses, squares, stripes, and Caucasian stars.
