Rizbaf Gabbeh Rug Wool Beige

Gabbeh rugs are made by the Gashgai and Lori nomads in the Fars province around Shiraz. Originally they served as a sleeping mat, as their high pile provides warmth. The uneven, hand-spun, lanolin-rich wool gives Gabbeh a typical grainy surface texture and makes it pleasantly soft. Many rugs have natural cream, brown, and grey tones. The strong colors such as red, yellow, green, and blue are created using plant dyes. Most Gabbehs are simple; if motifs occur, they show stylized patterns from the everyday life of the nomads such as animals, plants, and people.
