Rizbaf Gabbeh Rug Wool Beige

This handmade Gabbeh rug comes from the Fars province around Shiraz and is traditionally crafted by Gashgai and Lori nomads. Originally, Gabbeh rugs served as sleeping mats, as their high pile provides extra warmth. The use of hand-spun, lanolin-rich wool gives the surface a characteristic, slightly grainy texture and makes the rug soft and comfortable at the same time. The colors are created by natural plant dyes and range from classic cream, brown, and gray tones to bold red, yellow, green, and blue tones. Most Gabbehs are simple, but occasionally stylized motifs from the everyday lives of nomads can be found, such as animals, plants, or people.
