Rizbaf are fine Gabbeh carpets with a higher knot density. These high-pile carpets are handmade by the nomads of the Gashghai and Lori. Rizbaf are often knotted from hand-spun wool. This material gives them a lively and coarse surface texture. At the same time, the surface is soft and cozy, ideal for rooms where one likes to move barefoot. Rizbaf are knotted not only in monochrome natural colors, but especially in colorful and imaginative patterns. Stylized motifs from the everyday life of the nomads, depicting animals, plants, or entire landscapes, are found just as much as geometric motifs.
