About the book: Sebastião Salgado's haunting black and white photographs from the Genesis project show peoples and landscapes that have remained untouched by the devastating onslaught of modern society and development. The images, created during an epic eight-year expedition, are divided into six comprehensive geographical chapters: Planet South, Sanctuaries, Africa, Northern Spaces, Amazonia, and Pantanal.

Biography: Sebastião Salgado (1944–2025) began his career as a photographer in Paris in 1973 and subsequently worked for the photo agencies Sygma, Gamma, and Magnum Photos. In 1994, together with his wife Lélia Wanick Salgado, he founded the agency Amazonas Images, which exclusively represents his work. Salgado's photographic projects have been shown in numerous exhibitions and books, including Sahel. L’Homme en détresse (1986), Other Americas (1986), Terra (1997), Migrations (2000), Children of Migration (2000), Africa (2007), Genesis (2013), Scent of Dreams (2015), Kuwait. A Desert in Flames (2016), Gold (2019), and Amazônia (2021).
Lélia Wanick Salgado studied architecture and urban planning in Paris. She discovered her interest in photography in 1970. Since the 1980s, she has conceptualized and designed the majority of Sebastião Salgado's photo books and organized all exhibitions of his work.
