Biography: Norbert Schneider (1945–2019) was a professor of art history at the University of Karlsruhe. His areas of work included the art history of the Middle Ages and the Early Modern period – here especially the history of painting genres – art historical methodology, and problems of the history of philosophy. He is the author of numerous book publications. At TASCHEN, he has published Portraiture, Still Life, and Vermeer.
