About the book: Modern minimalism with a Japanese touch: a perfect introduction to the work of one of the world's most renowned architects of our time. Private houses, churches, museums, apartment buildings, and cultural structures in Japan, France, Italy, Spain, and the United States are shown.

Biography: Tadao Ando (* 1941) is one of the world's most renowned contemporary architects. After extensive travels through Europe, Africa, and Asia, he founded the office Tadao Ando Architect & Associates in 1969 as a self-taught architect. Ando has received, among other awards, the Pritzker Prize (1995), the RIBA Royal Gold Medal (1997), the AIA Gold Medal (2002), and the Praemium Imperiale (1996). He lives and works in his hometown of Osaka.
Masao Furuyama studied architecture in Kyoto and earned his doctorate in urban planning in Tokyo. He taught at the Kyoto Institute of Technology, where he has held the position of President since 2012, and has published several texts on architecture and Tadao Ando.
Peter Gössel runs an agency for museum and exhibition design. For TASCHEN, he has edited monographs on Julius Shulman, R. M. Schindler, John Lautner, and Richard Neutra, as well as several architecture titles in the Little Series.
