About the book: A tribute to one of the most versatile and influential directors in film history. Bergman himself had contributed to the conception of the award-winning original edition. This new edition presents his entire cinematic work with a wealth of rare documents and materials. Numerous companions of Bergman, critics, actors, and film historians have their say, tracing the life path of a creative genius who eluded all categorization.

Biography: Erland Josephson is an author, playwright, and filmmaker. He collaborated with Bergman for over 70 years. His companions include renowned film directors such as Andrei Tarkovsky, Theo Angelopoulos, Liliana Cavani, and IstvΓ‘n SzabΓ³.
Bengt Wanselius was a freelance photojournalist from 1967 to 1985 for almost every major magazine and almost every major publisher in Scandinavia. For 15 years, he was the house photographer for the Royal Dramatic Theatre in Stockholm, documenting the work of world-renowned theatre directors such as Arthur Miller, Andrzej Wajda, Robert Lepage, and Ingmar Bergman. His long collaboration with Bergman, encompassing over 20 productions in theatre, opera, and television, impressively documents Bergman's work. Film historian Paul Duncan has published numerous titles with TASCHEN, including The Star Wars Archives, The James Bond Archives, The Charlie Chaplin Archives, The Godfather Family Album, Taxi Driver, Film Noir, and Horror Cinema, as well as various works on directors, film genres, and film stars.
