Biography: David Hockney (* July 9, 1937) is an English painter, draftsman, printmaker, stage designer, and photographer. He first appeared in the early 1960s at the height of British Pop. In 1964, he moved to Los Angeles, where his famous swimming pool pictures were created. In addition to the classical genres of portraiture and landscape, he continuously developed his art by incorporating technologies such as Polaroids, photocopiers and fax machines, digital video, or iPhone and iPad into his painting. Since his first major retrospective, which toured Europe from the Whitechapel Gallery in London in 1970, he has been one of the most frequently exhibited and popular artists of our time.
