Gabbeh Rug Wool Beige

Gabbeh carpets are traditionally made by Gashghai and Lori nomads in the Fars province around Shiraz. Originally they served as a sleeping mat, as their high pile provides additional warmth. The hand-spun, lanolin-rich wool gives them a characteristic, slightly grainy surface texture. Many Gabbeh carpets are kept in natural cream, brown and grey tones, while strong colors like red, yellow, green and blue are created using plant dyes. The designs are mostly simple, but occasionally stylized motifs from the daily lives of the nomads can be found, including animals, plants and people.
