About the Book: This richly illustrated work traces the life, work, and visions of Friedensreich Hundertwasser (1928–2000), one of the most unconventional artists of the 20th century. Vibrant colors, organic forms, and a disdain for straight lines characterize his work in painting, architecture, design, and activism. Hundertwasser's most famous work, the Hundertwasserhaus in Vienna, embodies his idea of life-affirming, individual, and ecological architecture.
The book illuminates Hundertwasser's rejection of rational, sterile construction methods, his fascination with spirals, and his inspiration from artists such as Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele, and Antoni Gaudí. It also covers his personal belief system, "Transautomatism," which places the viewer's experience at its center. Hundertwasser's commitment to nature, human creativity, and social change is reflected in his projects, manifestos, and actions.
The new edition was created in collaboration with the Hundertwasser Foundation and includes numerous illustrations, essays, and excerpts from conversations with the artist. This creates a vivid portrait that uniquely combines the biography, art, and philosophy of the Viennese master.
