The Kelim originates from the region around the city of Sanandaj, which was formerly known by the name Senneh. Carpets from this city as well as from the surrounding rural area are referred to as Senneh carpets. These are reversible, flat-woven wool carpets with a characteristic Kelim slit weave. The design is characterized by finely elaborated small patterns, including rose bouquets as well as tree and flower motifs, which are often arranged in rows. Additionally, traditional Mahi motifs or a larger central field may appear, often complemented by a colored rhombus. The colorful coloring gives the carpet a lively and at the same time balanced appearance.
