Kelim Gashgai Wool Multicolored

The Gashgai are Turkish-speaking, nomadic tribes living in the region around Shiraz in southwestern Iran. Their Kelims are flat wool carpets that can be used on both sides, created by the characteristic slit weave. Small slits form in the weft, where the colors change. Typical patterns of these carpets are rhombuses, squares, stripes, and Caucasian star motifs. Strong colors such as blue, yellow, red, green, and beige are used for the design, giving the carpets their lively and traditional appeal.
