The Gashgai are Turkic-speaking, nomadic tribes who live in the region around Shiraz in southwestern Iran. Their kilims are characterized by a double-sided, flat wool fabric created by the typical slit weave. This forms small slits in the weft where the colors change. The rugs are adorned with classic Gashgai motifs such as rhombuses, squares, stripes, and Caucasian star patterns. Bold colors like blue, yellow, red, green, and beige are used for the design.
