The Gashgai are Turkic-speaking, nomadic tribes who live in the region around Shiraz in southwestern Iran. Their Kelims are double-sided, flat wool carpets, characterized by the typical slit tapestry technique. This weave is created by the weft forming small slits where the colors change. The carpets feature classic Gashgai motifs, including rhombuses, squares, stripes, and Caucasian star motifs. Bold colors such as blue, yellow, red, green, and beige are used for the design.
