Kelim Gashgai Wool Multicolored

The Gashgai are Turkic-speaking, nomadic tribes who live in the region around Shiraz in Southwest Iran. Their Kilims are double-sided, flat wool carpets that are created by the characteristic slit weaving. Small slits form in the weft, where the colors change. Typical patterns of these carpets are rhombuses, squares, stripes, and Caucasian star motifs. Strong colors such as blue, yellow, red, green, and beige are used for the design, which give the carpets their vibrant and traditional appearance.
