The Gashgai are Turkic-speaking, nomadic tribes who live in the region around Shiraz in southwestern Iran. Their Kelims are double-sided, flat wool carpets created through the characteristic slit weave. This creates small slits in the weft where the colors change. Typical patterns of these carpets include rhombuses, squares, stripes, and Caucasian star motifs. For the design, strong colors such as blue, yellow, red, green, and beige are used, which give the carpets their lively and traditional appearance.
