Kelim Gashgai Wool Multicolored

The Gashgai are Turkic-speaking, nomadic tribes who live in the region around Shiraz in southwestern Iran. Their kilims are flat wool carpets that can be used on both sides and are created through the characteristic slit weaving. Small slits are formed in the weft where the colors change. Typical patterns of these carpets are rhombuses, squares, stripes, and Caucasian star motifs. Bold colors such as blue, yellow, red, green, and beige are used for the design, which give the carpets their vibrant and traditional appeal.
