This Kilim originates from the traditional environment of the Gashgai, a Turkic-speaking nomadic community from the region around Shiraz in southwestern Iran. Characteristic of these carpets is the double-sided, flat-woven slit weave, in which small weaving slits are created by color changes. The patterns include typical Gashgai elements such as rhombuses, squares, stripes, and Caucasian star shapes. For the color design, classic strong natural tones such as blue, yellow, red, green, and beige are used, which give the carpet a lively and authentic appeal.
