Biography: Daniel Wildenstein (1917–2001) was an art historian and a member of the Académie des Beaux-Arts, Paris. From 1939, he managed the Wildenstein galleries in New York, London, and Tokyo, as well as the internationally renowned magazines Arts (1956–1962) and the Gazette des Beaux-Arts (after 1963). As a co-founder of the Wildenstein Foundation in 1970, he supported numerous exhibitions. He also led the preparation of catalogues raisonnés of artists from the 18th to the 20th century. As a globally recognized authority on Impressionist painting, he published the catalogues raisonnés of the complete works of Gauguin, Manet, and Monet.
